It was a typical day on a Greek Island, sunny and hot, when my wife my daughter and I decided that we would hire one of the motor boats that we had seen on previous days moored near the shore. We set off to explore some of the southern coast of Kefalonia. The sea was calm and that azure colour that looks so inviting. Looking out from the boat inland we could see the dramatic coast line with the hills stretching up over a thousand metres. We stopped at a beach unreachable except by boat to swim in the warm sea and later at an old fishing village for an ice cream. Eventually we began our journey back. There was a slight breeze and there were some small waves but as we rounded a headland the breeze became a wind and the waves became larger. As the wind became stronger the waves increased to over a metre and a half. Suddenly we found ourselves smashing into the increasingly high waves and on occasion the boat was out of the water only to come crashing down again.
